How To Commission Engraving

How To Commission Engraving

Woodland Trading LLC operates on a commission-only basis. All engraving work is developed specifically for the client and the individual item being engraved. Display pieces shown on this site or at events are examples of capability and finish.

1. Initial Inquiry

To begin a commission, contact Woodland Trading LLC with:

  • The item or part you want engraved
  • Clear photos of the item (multiple angles if possible)
  • Any ideas regarding style, coverage, or inspiration

This allows us to confirm suitability, scope, and feasibility before proceeding.

2. Consultation & Quoting

Once the project is reviewed, you will receive:

  • A recommended engraving tier (accent, signature, or heirloom)
  • A price range or firm quote based on complexity, material, and finish
  • An estimated lead time

Each project is evaluated individually. We do not offer mass production or template-only work.

3. Artwork Development

All engraving artwork is created in-house using professional vector design tools.

Depending on the project, this may include:

  • Pattern selection or custom artwork
  • Layout and coverage planning
  • Depth and contrast considerations for the specific material

An artwork proof is provided for approval before engraving begins.

4. Deposit & Scheduling

A deposit is required to reserve a production slot.
Once the deposit is received:

  • The project is scheduled
  • Lead time is confirmed
  • Final design approval is locked

Availability is limited to maintain quality and consistency.

5. Engraving

All engraving is completed off-site using a JPT Semi-MOPA fiber laser.
This allows controlled depth, clean edges, and compatibility with a wide range of metals and finishes.

No engraving is performed on-site or at events.

6. Inspection & Return

Each piece is inspected before return.
Final payment is required prior to pickup or shipping.

Important Notes

  • Parts and personal items only
  • No receivers or serialized components accepted
  • No same-day or on-site engraving
  • Pricing depends on material, finish, and design complexity
  • Lead times vary by workload and project scope

Why Commission-Based Work

Commissioning allows:

  • Proper design planning
  • Finish-safe engraving
  • Consistent, repeatable quality
  • Work tailored to the client rather than mass appeal

This approach ensures each piece receives the time and attention required for permanent, high-quality results.
